"The looking-glass self"
The term the looking-glass self was created by American sociologist Charles Horton Cooley in 1902, and introduced into his own work Human Nature and the Social Order. It is described as, our reflection of how we think we appear to others. To further explain would be how oneself imagines how other view him/her.
The looking-glass self comprises three main components that are unique to humans.

1. We imagine how we must appear to others in a social situation.
2. We imagine and react to what we feel their judgment of that appearance must be.
3. We develop our sense of self and respond through this perceived judgments of others.

‘타인이 바라보는 나 나를 향한 타인의 시선을 상상하는 나 그렇게 타인에 의해 만들어져 가는 나’  미국의 사회학자 찰스 쿨리(Charles H. Cooley)가 제시한 개념인 거울자아는 세 가지 요소로 구성된다. 첫 번째는 다른 사람의 눈에 비친 자신의 모습을 상상하는 것이다. 두 번째는 자신의 모습에 대해 다른 사람이 어떤 판단을 내릴지를 상상하는 것이다. 세 번째는 타인의 평가에 수치심이나 굴욕감을 느끼는 자기감정인데, 이러한 느낌을 해석하는 과정을 통해 자신의 모습을 인식하게 된다.
블링크 매거진 54번째 책에서는 현시대 우리 가까이 일상이 되어 버린, 타인의 시선만을 의식하여 진정한 자아는 잃어버린 소셜미디어 이용 행태에 대하여 고찰 및 풍자하는 작업을 담아 냈다.
